Cheap Laminate Flooring Underlayment - Review
There once was a time when cheap laminate flooring looked as its price suggested. That time is gone. Laminates are still relatively inexpensive, but now they have the appearance and durability of the more expensive styles of flooring. Laminate floorings can be made to look like many other styles, including hardwood, ceramic, and others.
Laminate flooring underlayment is made up of four different layers, including bottom, core, design, and protective.
Melamine, which is a type of molded plastic resin, is typically used for the bottom of good laminate flooring underlayment. This material is strong and very heat resistant. Other laminates, of lesser quality, are made with a paper backing.
The next laminate flooring underlayment is the core, which is typically made up of fiber board. This material is strong, while still retaining some elasticity, at an affordable price. The result is a durable, yet comfortable floor. The design is similar to that of tongue-and-groove hardwood flooring, with it's interlocking pieces. This design adds to the strength and support of the floor.
The design laminate flooring underlayment is next. This is where the pattern or design is incorporated. This layer can have the appearance of just about any other type of flooring, including wood, ceramic, and others. The color and design options in this type of flooring are literally endless.
The fourth, and final, laminate flooring underlayment consists of the protective coating on top of the design layer. This is the layer that protects the floor from moisture and scratches. These problems are still possible, but the protective layer will prevent much of this. This makes cleaning and repair much easier by not allowing the damage to get embedded in the other layers.
Cheap laminate flooring is uniquely suited for certain areas of the home, but they are a great addition anywhere.
Hardwood floors are great looking in a kitchen. The problem is that they are easily damaged by things such as hot grease, water, and dropped cooking utensils. Laminates are a good choice here as they are cheaper and easier to repair.
Ceramic and wood floors would both work well in the bathroom, but they are not nearly as water resistant as laminates. They're also much easier to clean, compared to the grout between ceramic tiles. Laminates are a combination of strength and durability, at a much more affordable price.
Laminates usually come in planks that are three feet long, and several inches wide. They are installed similar to the way wood is installed, but you can cover the floor much quicker. The interlocking design will prevent the floor from moving around. The under layer and the core will also prevent the floor from squeaking when walked on.
Easy Laminate Flooring Care
Laminate flooring can be cleaned easily by vacuuming and mopping. There is also less risk of various allergens to be trapped in the floor, like you would have with carpet.
The stain resistant material makes this type of flooring perfect for areas of the home where spills are common. The mess will not soak into the floor and can be wiped up easily.
The only problem you might have with the cheap laminate flooring option is deciding between the hundreds of options available.
