Carpet Flooring – Throw Rugs and Area Rugs
When it comes to throw rugs and area rugs, the choices are endless, from inexpensive nylon ovals to Persian rugs that are nearly room size and cost thousands of dollars. Your budget and the space to be used will be the main deciding factors.
In Japanese homes, a popular choice is a flatweave throw rug with their combination of elegance and practicality. They're good for high traffic areas, providing durability and strength. They also add beauty to almost any room with their variety of colorful patterns.
Even throw away throw rugs can be a practical and attractive addition to most rooms. Ideal for entry areas, where snow and mud may be tracked in, they are machine-made, with materials that are inexpensive.
When they become worn and dirty, they can easily be replaced at a very low cost. This also eliminates the hassle of worrying about cleaning and maintenance. You can easily wash them, or just toss them when you're done.
A tiled sunroom is the ideal place to use a durable Olefin rug.
They're durable enough to last for years in the high traffic area between the house and the patio. The variety of colors and patterns make them perfect for just about any style of room or tile that you have.
Throw rugs are also very useful in the kitchen area.
Be careful here, though, that you choose something that is somewhat stain resistant. You can either throw them away or wash them as needed. If you do plan on washing them periodically, try to avoid the type that have rubber backing.
These latex and rubber backings also have the potential to stain your floor if it is covered with vinyl. Try to stick with those that are made of jute or some type of cloth backing. Any anti-sliding material that is placed under the rug should not be made of rubber or latex either.
Another place that you will usually find throw rugs is in the bathroom.
These rugs are as functional as they are decorative. They are perfect for avoiding having to step out of the shower onto a cold and slippery floor. The water that's left will also cause problems if the floor is made of wood. The problems will show up in the form of mold and mildew. Nothing shortens the life of a wooden floor faster than water.
Hooked rugs are ideal for use in front of the bathroom sink. This area does not see as much water as some others, so it should be durable enough. A hooked rug that is backed with some type of non-slip material is perfect for this purpose.
Always keep in mind what the purpose of the rug is going to be when considering it's construction. Knowing exactly what qualities you need in a throw rug will make it that much easier to find what you're looking for.
