Watering Systems for Greenhouse
If you have a greenhouse, you will need a watering system. After all, that is what all of your plants and flowers will need. How much water they get and how much water they need will be a big part of your maintaining the plants and flowers.
If you are keeping cacti in your greenhouse, for example, you won’t need very much water at all. They are efficient at keeping the water you give them in their roots. Bonsai plants, on the other hands, will need a much greater amount of water, assuming they have a great drainage system.
What kind of plants are you going to keep in your greenhouse? Knowing what plants you will have in your greenhouse is the first step towards your planning for a suitable watering system for your greenhouse. You can determine the watering system you need this way and whether or not will you will an automatic watering system for your greenhouse operation.
You can find an automatic watering system that is similar to soaker hoses that lie in or around the soil and slowly put water into the soil. You can also have overhead sprinklers that will spray or mist water to the plants. Depending on the plants you have, you will have to find the right automatic watering system for you, if you get one at all.
You can also find a spigot or a long hose that runs from the house and water your plants that way. It can be much easier than a watering can. You will want to have an internal spigot inside your greenhouse so that you don’t have to leave your greenhouse door open while you are watering the whole time.
You can also pipe water into the house using a standard PVC pipe that you would see with your sprinkler system. The standard pipe will provide plenty of water to your greenhouse unless you have an unusually large greenhouse. The pipes and all the accessories that go with them like controls and couplers are not expensive. The biggest difficulty will be digging the trench, since this can be expensive if you have someone else do it.
Whenever you plan an overhead watering or misting system, some of the moisture will go to the other plants and items as well, so make sure you have benches and tables you have are waterproof and won’t have problems. If you have a watering system, you will most likely have excess moisture on the walls and roof. You will want to plan a kind of ventilation system in order to accommodate around this excess moisture. You will probably also need to clean the walls at times as well.
You can find simple ventilation from a single fan to a narrow gap around the top of the roof. You will need to clean the mildew using standard cleaning products and keep your greenhouse clean and fresh. In this way, your plants and flowers can get the water they need while making sure your greenhouse isn’t overrun with mildew. There are a number of cleaning supplies that can help.
