How to Use Indoor Houseplants for Indoor Design
Gardening is not only a way to beautify your outdoor living space; it is also a way to enhance the elegance of your indoor surrounding as well. From color to texture and even fragrance, houseplants can take the normal elements of interior design to a whole new dimension of decorating. Nothing accents fine furniture, eclectic paintings and other tabletop décor than adding the simplistic beauty of nature’s wonders.
Containers and pots come in a wide variety of colors, sizes, shapes and materials. A bright colored pot is a sure fire way to liven up the darkness of a secluded corner, while clay pots can add a touch of earth tone to any room. Metal and wooden containers have just the right amount of subtlety to add a touch of whimsy to a porch or sunroom.
It is important to keep a continuing flow if your room is dedicated to a theme. For instance, if your passion is Bonsai, using the aid of red ceramic will assist in keeping the flow of the oriental theme. If wild vines are your fancy, pots embossed with simple lines will help in alleviating distraction from the plants beauty. For those who find the carnivorous plant species a must, adding pots embellished with a crocodile or other carnivorous animal will add a touch of humor to the décor.
Another way to alter the effect of your design is by adding containers of various shapes. In the art of design, it is believed that a round shaped pot signifies solidity, while a rectangular tray depicts movement as it encourages the eyes to wander. Adding some asymmetrical pots shows of the eclectic charm of the gardener/designer.
Color plays another important role in design. Choosing flowers for their color can add serenity to a favorite quiet area while vibrant yellows and reds can liven up a neutral dull room with their exciting splashes of color.
The size and shape of the flowers you place in a room also play a role in interior design. If you’re looking for an active display, several additions of star shaped blossoms are an ideal addition. For those who wish to make a bold statement in their room the bell-shaped Orchid is an excellent choice. Finally, if creating a wondrous living statue is your goal, ground cover with tiny flowers sticking out or a beautiful single blossom on a vibrant green stalk will fit the bill.
Placement and number of potted plants also plays an intricate role in interior design. Several plants in the medium size range placed throughout a room at different levels, gives the room a feeling of spaciousness. Having a potted plant hanging from the ceiling gives a much different effect than a large potted plant placed on the floor. Lastly, one large plant placed in a room is a definite way to draw attention as it immediately draws a person to focus on that particular area.
Using the many variables of color, shape, size, placement and number of plants can enhance any interior living space. The combination of personal, artificial décor elements combined with the beauty nature has to offer, brightens and enlightens, bringing a sense of pleasure to any interior design.
