Landscaping Ideas to Control Insect Problems In Your Garden
In the past, controlling pests and insects was much more difficult than it is today. With today’s advancements in science and technology, there are numerous options available to help manage damaging insects.
Identifying what kinds of insects you have and knowing which ones you are likely to get are the two most important factors in successfully controlling them. Out of the thousands of common species, each region has only a few that will do serious damage. There are a few different ways to identify them.
One way is to examine your leaves to see what the damage looks like. Then you can
research that specific plant online to identify the culprit. Usually there are numerous photos
you can use for comparison.
Sometimes the damage isn’t quite as obvious, and you have to assume the most common
pests to narrow it down. Rose bushes, for example are often infested by aphids, and are very
hard to see. Grubs are a common problem for grass and can only be found under the soil.
Another method is to examine the effects.
In late Spring and Summer, grass that has round brown spots on it usually indicates a
Japanese Beetle grub infestation. This could, however be a sign of some other problem, but if
the grass seems to easily pull up in large pieces, usually grubs are the cause.
There are many safe and inexpensive methods for dealing with the problem once the insect
has been correctly identified. Today, there are many chemical sprays available that are safe for
the environment and your family, although this is not always necessary depending on your
specific problem.
One method that is gaining popularity these days is the use of biological control methods.
This is starting to take the place of grub killing fertilizer and insecticides. ’Milky spores’ is a
substance that is very useful for dealing with grubs in your lawn, and it is quite inexpensive as
well.
The initial cost of milky spores will be more than that of standard grub killing fertilizer, but
in the end, you will save money. A $10 bag of grub killer will last you up to two years, whereas
a 1 liter bottle of milky spores will cost more than $30 but will last ten years. Milky spores
contain living organisms that will attack the grub larvae and keep them from growing. Although
they are alive, they will not harm your lawn like grubs do.
Many common insect species now have a specific biological control method that is designed
to deal with them. This is because different organisms are more suited to attack certain insects
than others. The effects of these methods will usually last longer, as well as being safe and
inexpensive.
Chemical insecticides are still an effective way to eliminate pests. Today’s versions have become quite safe for humans and the environment.
