Lawn Landscaping Tools – How to Choose a Leaf Blower
If you have a smaller yard or only a few trees, you might be good with just a rake. However, if you have a bigger property or a high number of trees, you might want to think about the convenience of buying a leaf blower. Your trees might not only be disturbing your yard, they could be blowing into your neighbor’s, causing problems for them as well.
If you have want a power leaf blower, there are two different kinds: electric and gas-powered.
Electric leaf blowers are usually lighter, quieter, better for the environment and less expensive. However, they don’t have near the amount of power that their gas-powered counterparts have, making it longer to clear the area. The power ratings for each machine are located on the unit and will be measured in cubic feet of air per minute or CFM. You will pay more for the higher CFM machines.
Sometimes, the models will run off a battery, but they only have enough juice to flow through a smaller unit. You will probably be given a cord to use as well, which can be great for smaller yards, but inconvenient for larger ones. If your trees and area are far from an outlet, you should consider getting a gas-powered leaf blower. After all, who wants to be tripping over a long extension cord that is just getting in the way.
Gas-powered leaf blowers are much more convenient without a cord, but they can also be a lot heavier. They will push more air and consequently get the job done faster than the electric models. On the flip side, however, they can smell of gas and will make a lot of noise. It’s not a good idea to blow off your yard at 8:30 in the morning on a Sunday if you want to be friends with your neighbors! If you have heard a professional lawn care company before, you have probably heard the sound of a gas-powered leaf blower, which can be a source of constant irritation.
Gas-powered leaf blowers can work in a variety of lawns and property sizes. They can also operate in reverse, acting as a leaf vacuum cleaner, pushing the leaves to another location. If pushing the leaves into a street or your neighbor’s lawn is not a good solution, this option will be a good feature for you.
Just blow all of your leaves into one central location (preferably in the middle of your yard to avoid getting your neighbor’s yard dirty) and then you can easily pick up your leaves in one spot.
You can find leaf blowers as light as a few pounds or as heavy as 25 pounds. If you plan on using your leaf blower for over an hour, you will really want to look into buying a lighter model even if it is more expensive since it will help your arms and more in the long run. This will all depend on the size of your lawn, how strong you are and how much money you have to spend on a machine.
