Lawn Care Equipments – How to Choose a Lawnmower

The original lawnmower was invented in 1830, much to the pleasure of residential homeowners. The basic parts were the same in the beginning, although they weren’t electrical or gas powered. The blades with a twisted design did a great job of keeping the grass low and even. The reel mower replaced the hand scythes that had been being used before. Of course, like any new technology, it took a little while to catch on.

Lawnmowers are now one of the most popular tools homeowners have. Most tools are rotary and can cut grass within an inch or so in height. Most of them are also powered by gas. However, there are so many options out there, you should do your research to make sure you can find the right one for you.

There are a lot of ways to get information. You can get brochures, go to the manufacturer’s websites or read reviews about the products online. Figure out how long they usually last and what typically breaks on the machine to keep an eye out. How often do they need to be maintained? Some engines will need constant tuning while others are more self-reliant.

Different types of grass will need different lawnmowers as well. If you have a short, dense grass with short blades, you will need a different type of lawnmower than more sparse, longer grass. Ask a lawn care professional for advice if you are unsure about which style lawnmower you might need.

Power rotary lawnmowers are the most popular and were invented in 1939. If you push them, they will be about $100 less than the self-propelling kind. These will typically do a great job and the self-propelling feature might not be worth the extra money to you.

Self propelling lawnmowers will also need to be turned, so their benefits can be limited. You might have to turn it only rarely, though, and in these cases, it will be fine. Most of the time, it’s just a matter of taste, reliability, reputation and how much money you are able to spend.

Do you want to leave the grass behind or pick it up with you? What kind of grass do you have? You can find machines that will cater to your grass quality and type, as well as bag your excess grass bits in a bag for you as you push the mower around. This will also depend on the size of your lawn. If you have a wide lawn, a side bag is no problem, but tighter lawns will have problems moving around.

You can choose a rear bag or a side bag to clean up the grass bits. Rear bags can be more cumbersome, while the side bag is often lighter and less expensive. Make sure you test out the options and try to remove the bag before you buy to make sure it is easy to do.

Be sure to make sure that your lawnmower has quality parts that will last awhile. Nobody wants to keep returning to the store to buy new lawnmowers again and again!
