Lawn Garden Tools – How to Choose a Lawn Hose
You will need a hose for almost everything you do in your lawn and garden. Even the most basic lawns and gardens have hoses for an array of activities outside. There can be dangerous times when your plants and grass are not getting enough rain. If you buy new vegetation, your plants or flowers will need to be watered every day. The best way to do this is with a hose, even if you have a sprinkler system.
If you have a garden, you should install an easy soaker hose system. They are difficult to install or cost a lot of money, but they do require some advanced planning. The soaker hose doesn’t have all of the water rushing out of one end, but instead has it oozing out through a number of small holes. This way, you can get an even distribution of the water to the areas that need it most.
Soaker hoses need to be getting quality material and they also need to be located in the exact right spot to work well. If the hose is stiff and has decayed over the last cold season, it could crack. The holes will become too big in some areas and flood, while avoiding other spots. Each time you use it afterwards, it will be less and less effective.
A good soaker hose will be flexible in order to prevent cracking over the years. It will also help when you have to loop it around different areas in your garden. This way, you can accommodate the exact design of your garden. Keep your hose safe by winding it up after you are done and clamping it with a plastic or metal tine.
A good garden hose is necessary in addition to the soaker hose. You can’t always use the soaker hose and sometimes, you will want to aim the water at a specific potted plant or smaller section. If you have a good garden hose, it will not kink or twist, no matter how you pull on it or retrace your steps around the lawn. If your hose kinks, it is the first step towards its eventual destruction. Each kink weakens the hose a little bit more, eventually leading to a crack and break.
Once a kink happens in the hose, you will also see that the water is drastically reduced. When you unkink it, a large rush of water will come out, possibly making you lose control of the hose for a moment. A cheap hose will even keep the kink in its material and will stay bent, causing lesser performance. You should look for a hose made with layers and an interior made of flexible mesh to prevent this from happening. These hoses will last for years.
When you are finished with a lawn hose, be sure to store it well so that there are no kinks or bends in it. When you spend a little more on a better hose, you will ultimately save money in the long run because you won’t keep running to the store to buy new hoses each season. A few dollars spent now will save you time and money in the future.
