Simple Exercises for Short Term Memory Training
Everyone knows that to stay healthy, exercise is required, and the same is true for your brain. In order to function correctly, the brain (similar to a muscle), needs to stay active. Short term memory exercises training are a great way to look after the ‘health’ of your brain.
Used as a holding area for information, short term memory is ‘cleared’ regularly in order to allow more information to be stored, and to stop information overload from happening. Things such as phone numbers, names of people we meet and addresses are examples of the sort of information that we store in our short term memory. It is possible to both increase the amount of information, and the time it remains in our short term memory, by practicing exercises that specifically target the short term memory area of the brain.
The Peek A Boo Picture Game
To improve your short term memory, begin by trying the following simple exercise. Look at a picture of your choosing. It can be a photo, an advertisement, a book cover or anything you choose. Focus on the picture for a few seconds, then cover it up. Try to recall every detail you can about the picture and write these details down. Once you have written every detail you can remember, look at the picture again.
Are there things you missed? Are all the details correct? Try again with another picture, and another. The more you practice this exercise, the more you are training your short term memory, and you will find that you will soon be able to hold more details in your short term memory. The great thing about this exercise is that it can be used by anyone of any age, and it’s even possible to play it as a family game.
Audio Short Term Memory Exercises
Audio exercises, like image exercises, can be used to improve your short term memory. You can use an audio book, songs, a debate, anything, as long as you have access to whatever it is that you’re using so that you can rewind the audio clip to check your answers. Listen to the audio clip you’ve chosen then write down any details that you remember. To see how many details you got correct, rewind and check the information you’ve written down. You’ll find that the more you practice this exercise, the more you’ll increase your listening skills along with enhancing your short term memory.
These short term memory exercises training are versatile, and can be practiced as an individual, or as a group or family game, at anytime, and just about anywhere. The more you exercise your short term memory, the more information you’ll be able to store there. A well trained short term memory is beneficial in all aspects of life. If you find that you forget something as soon as you’re told, try doing the exercises and see your short term memory increase.
