How to Have a Photographic Memory
Do you think that if you weren’t born with a photographic memory, then there’s nothing that you can do about it? In fact you can develop a photographic memory, you just need to practice memory exercises. Like a computer, your brain is capable of storing vast amounts of information. You are able to retrieve files from a computer because they are stored in a certain way. If the files were stored in no systematic order, then it wouldn’t be possible to retrieve the information easily. In order to develop a photographic memory, you also need to store details in a systematic way, so that you are able to recall information instantly.
To develop a photographic memory, you need to learn to associate things so that retrieving the information becomes easier. If you have trouble remembering peoples names, for example, try associating their name with something that you already remember. If you are introduced to someone who is a little large, and their name is Al, bring to mind the character ‘Big Al’. Perhaps it might seem a little mean, but no-one is going to know what you use to associate a word, and you’ll find that you remember the name, which is the point of association.
Thinking in pictures is a helpful skill when developing your photographic memory. It becomes easier to remember a phone number if you think of an image in place of the numbers. For example, the numbers five five one could be thought of as two hands holding a candle. Each hand depicts the number five as there are five fingers on each hand, and the candle represents the number one, based on its shape. Remembering details this way will ensure that you are able to retrieve information in an instant – which is the aim of a photographic memory.
There are many other exercises that you can you to enhance your photographic memory. Search the internet or buy a book by someone who specializes in memory techniques. Enhancing your memory requires practice, so the more memory exercises you do, the better your memory will become. If you begin now and practice consistently, you’ll find that you’ll be able to recall information and details instantly in a short space of time.
