Hybrid Tea Rose Care Tips, Appearance and Characteristics
The Hybrid Tea rose is a combination of two roses getting together to make one amazingly modern rose. The Hybrid Perpetual and the Tea Rose are two old fashioned roses that make a wondrous hybrid child. Both of these roses are lovely with large stems and bloom throughout the year for maximum beauty and color.
The Hybrid Tea rose does not have a strong scent, but it has a ton of petals and is very tall in stature. It is commonly referred to as the “basic rose on a stick” and they are very popular roses to give away on special occasions.
Hybrid Tea roses look great in a variety of gardens. They can be planted in rows by themselves for an exceptional look and for the easiest maintenance possible. Keep your rose area weed-free for maximum success. They do not like weeds, like most flowers. You will need to place the roses roughly 24-inches from one another so they can have plenty of room to grow. You should start to plant your hybrid roses in the springtime and start a tradition, adding one with each desire to see more color in your rose garden.
Many gardeners don’t choose the Hybrid Tea roses because of all the thorns. There are actually several thornless varieties on the market that you can take advantage of, even though purists say that the thorns are part of the flower and what helps you to appreciate the rose in general. If you see hybrids that say “smooth” on the label, that means that they do not have any thorns. You can find them in every possible color with the exception of blue for whatever reason.
You will need to give your Hybrid Tea roses plenty of water during the hotter summer months, especially if you live in a dry area. Most gardens need a good soak with water roughly every 2 weeks anyways. If your ground looks dry and your plants are starting to droop, most likely you need a good amount of water to help revitalize your plants. You can put mulch on top of the soil as well to help prevent weeds and keep the moisture in with the plants.
After about three years, the Hybrid Tea rose will reach its maximum height. You can prune the flower back each season, but it will grow back to this height annually after its three years. Most hybrid tea roses live approximately six to seven years old. Some species will live longer if they are given exceptional care and maintenance. You will need to make sure that your rose is given a lot of sun to stay healthy. They require about six hours of pure sunlight every day, especially in the morning, which is essential. The morning sun helps to get rid of their mildew and prevent diseases from developing from the dew.
Make sure you prune your roses frequently in order to see new buds grow. If you don’t prune, you won’t see fresh growth in the right places.
