Miniature Rose Care Tips, Appearance and Characteristics

Miniature roses are not only adorable and lovely to look at – they are easy to grow! For a long time, the miniature rose was discouraged because they do not produce a strong scent, but they are the ideal accent to any home or garden. You can find miniature roses that are almost utterly maintenance free. All they need is consistent water and they will take care of the rest on their own!

Most of the time, when people think about miniature roses, they immediately assume that these plants would make great houseplants indoors. But wait before you move your plants inside! Miniature roses can grow up to four feet in height. They will need a lot of sunshine and they will need a lot of feeding. Micro-mini roses will only grow about five inches tall, and are easy to maintain, which might be easier inside your home. If you want to keep your miniature roses inside, make sure to follow these simple tasks for a higher success rate.

Keep your plants in direct sunlight. Put them in the windows of your home that get the most sun. If the stems are reaching out, leaving wide gaps between the leaves, then your roses are not getting enough sun. You should either move the plant or provide it with supplemental light to keep it healthy. Make sure to give your plant water at least once a week. You should also spray it with a conditioner to prevent spider-mite attacks. Gently mist the top and under part of the leaves. The spray will also help to remove dust.

Make sure that your plant has plenty of room in its pot to grow. If the plant gets too cramped in a smaller pot, it won’t be happy, while if it has too much room, it will be reluctant to get much bigger.

Most miniature roses will bloom from the spring until the winter season. You can cover your plant with mulch to give it a much better chance of surviving the frost and coldest parts of the winter. You can plant your rose in the ground, in a hanging basket or in an 8 -10” pot. If you keep it away from trees or anything that will cast a long shadow over it, it will be better for the plant since they love direct sunlight.

Dig your hole about one foot in depth and width. Place the miniature rose in the hole level and water thoroughly. Don’t let the soil dry out, especially in the first few weeks as the plant adjusts to get used to its new surroundings. Roses love water! After three weeks are over, however, just try to keep the soil moist. If the soil is dry, water it to keep it moist and happy.

Miniature roses can look great in a variety of environments and take up a lot less room than traditional roses. If you want to put something along the edges of your flower bed or anywhere that your home needs a little extra color, miniature roses are a great choice.
